Rare visitor to the Woodland
1st Mar 2023
Last week we made a very startling discovery down at our school Woodland bird feeders. A very rare, and quite shy spotted woodpecker has been regularly visiting the bird feeders. We know he is a male by his markings, and we hope he is part of a breeding pair. Woodpeckers are not native to Ireland, though they have been reported here over the last 20 odd years. During 2019 a pair were spotted in Oxford Island. We hope that this population grow in our area, and we will contine to use the cameras to monitor their visits.
