February Mid-term Break and Strike Action
9th February 2023
Dear Parents and Carers
School Closure Monday 13th – Friday 17th February for Midterm Break
- School will be closed all next week for our Mid-term break.
- School reopens on Monday 20th February as normal.
Strike Action – Tuesday 21st February
Tuesday 21st February, school will be closed all morning.
UTU, INTO and NASUWT have instructed their members to engage in a half day strike from midnight to midday on Tuesday.
The strike action is linked to continuing and detrimental cuts to education, as well as pay. Our own school is suffering greatly as a direct consequence of the cuts in educational funding and running a school where we can keep over 800 pupils safe, warm and with adequate resources is increasingly difficult. In fact, with the actual budget allocated, it is impossible.
Therefore, while disruptive to your routine, I would ask sincerely that you support the actions of the unions and teachers in trying to affect change.
School gates will not open to children and cars before 12 noon.
School dinners will be offered on that day, and I ask that all paid and free school meals bookings are completed in advance.
We have cleared all previous dinner bookings for that day on the School Money App.
I ask parents sending their children to the afternoon session on 21st February, book or rebook dinner for that date as soon as possible (today or tomorrow). We need a realistic idea of numbers for the School Meals Staff. It will be a single meal option that day of fish fingers, chips and peas. Alternatively send your child in with a packed lunch.
Any queries please contact the school or email me directly.
Yours sincerely,
Orla O’Dowd
