Reading

Reading forms an important part of your child's education. Now that the pupils have settled in to the new school term, homework and reading will be commencing.
Reading books will be sent home by the class teacher and it is important that this is completed at home on a regular basis. Reading for enjoyment is further encouraged with the pupils own choice of book. Over the next couple of weeks Accelerated Reader will be commencing again for P4/R4 - P7/R7 pupils. They will then be given the opportunity to borrow books from the school library.
It is important that pupils look after and return both reading books and library books to school. Unfortunately due to a shortage of school funds it is not easy to replace books therefore parents will be asked to cover the cost of lost books.
Spelling
The Complete Spelling Programme proved very successful last year for pupils from P2 - P7 therefore the school will continue with this as the main literacy homework. Activities should be completed at home, as directed by the class teacher, and spellings reinforced in preparation for the Friday spelling test. It is important that pupils return their books to school each week for the teacher to check on progress.
Due to the cost of photocopying, parents will be asked to make a donation towards the cost of any lost booklets.
Many thanks in advance for your support with this.
